Why do house projects ALWAYS take much longer than you think? Sadly, I've had these drapes for about 8 months and have been waiting for over a month for the curtain rods to ship. Because that's taken so long, I should have known that it would take me 4 hours to put the pleat pins in the curtains. These curtains came with openings so you could just slide the opening over the rod. I knew the burlap curtains were already very casual, so to give them a more finished look, Mom and Grandmother sewed curtain pleating to the back of the drapes. Yesterday while watching the Dawgs and then again this afternoon, I inserted the pins to make the pleats. My fingers are now numb! It was a project! Brooke hung the bamboo rods that we bought off of Ebay and we finally got the drapes hung. Like I said, after sitting in my closet for 8 months, it was about time!
This picture is out of order, but these are the pleats after the pins have been inserted.
Here's what it looks like to insert a pleat pin. I think using these with cotton or silk drapes would be much easier. Burlap is thick!
And, the bamboo rod is up!
Drapes hung on either side of the french doors.
And, here's a view from the kichen. Strangely enough, Brooke and I feel it makes the room not only look larger, but the ceiling appear taller, too. I've read that putting the curtain rod as far up the wall as possible always heightens the ceiling. A nice trick!

The curtains look great! And they do make the room look "taller"! I know you are glad to get this project finished....what is next on the list?? Love, Mom
What great ideas! Looks great as usual. And I have been meaning to ask how your new job is going. Also we went to Faith & Family Values (I think that's the name) Sunday School class yesterday and liked it. So we may start going to it. Let us know if you want to give it a try.
Hmmm, did you read that in, maybe "Room With a Hue," Southern Living, May 2008? ha ha. Kidding. They look great!
Burlap drapes...I LOVE them! That room looks so cozy and warm! I need to come up for a visit so I can see the whole house and all of your projects :)
hey - looks so good! So different to read the blog after seeing it in person! Everything looks great. I told Eliza we were going to the mountains this weekend and she asked if we were going to "Mrs. Cat-hume's Mountain"
Well Steph, of course I read that fabulously well-written article in the May 2008 Southern Living! I sure wish I knew who wrote that. :) I also wish I could have that pink room in my house! I can't say that I hadn't heard that trick before, but you certainly gave me reassurance!
I never knew that you should put the curtain rods up that high on the wall, but it definitely does make the room look taller! You are full of great ideas and so creative! Your home looks great!
